Style Tip: White on White. It’s crisp and cool. Mix it with the right fabric and texture. (i.e. linen with light fabrics. Do not mix a light fabric with a heavy one.) Also, use accessories and color to create your own style.

“Do not completely wear one color from head to toe or you may run the risk of mimicking a nurse’s uniform”

-Stephanie Matsumoto

Michelle Obama returned to Paris again, this time to join her husband for the D-Day ceremony commemorating in Caen, France on June 6, 2009. While the occasion is a somber one, and I may have chosen navy blue with silver, Mrs. Obama still managed to inject a ray of light with her beautiful white on white ensemble. I have blogged previously about her style; succinctly, I absolutely love it. She again did not disappoint. She wore a beautiful Narcisco Rodriguez coat with a Michael Kors dress, and a silver belt by Givenchy. She also wore silver Jimmy Choo shoes.

For me, white on white, with dressier and luxurious designs, can be elegant and classy especially when paired with gold, silver, or diamonds for a touch of glamour. Of course, diamonds-the bling-bling- ALWAYS sparkle any outfit. On the other hand, if you want to create a more, playful white on white ensemble, you may choose lightweight fabrics such as linens, silk, lycra, etc. which can create a nautical or crisp and cool resort wear look. At all costs, remember, do not completely wear one color from head to toe or you may run the risk of mimicking a nurse’s uniform. Accent with unique accessories and color because the eyes will be drawn to those places first. And always wear pieces that fit right for your body!

NBA FINALS 2009: GO LAKERS!!!

“DON’T HOLD BACK. PLAY THE WAY YOU LIVE YOUR LIFE, WITH YOUR WHOLE HEART AND SOUL.”

-PHIL JACKSON, COACH OF THE LOS ANGELES LAKERS

After living in Los Angeles for many years, you learn the Los Angeles Lakers basketball team is synonymous with the city. Why? The Lakers have been a winning franchise with superstars like Shaq and Kobe gracing the court at The Staples Center and Phil Jackson and Pat Riley as the superstar coaches as well. People grow up watching the Lakers and traditions and memories begin. It is part of the Los Angeles culture.

At the same time, I love sports, and and I love watching supreme athletes participate in a hard fought, challenging match.  It intrigues me -the supreme athlete’s mind and spirit. I know that to be the best, you must not only be physically talented, you must also possess superior mental fitness. So as the Lakers pursue yet another NBA title, I could not help but wonder what is Phil Jackson’s secret in winning and bringing out the best in his athletes like Michael Jordan, Kobe Bryant and Shaquille O’Neill. He does have a record of being 40-0 in a playoff series if he wins Game 1. That is a winning stretch even if he breaks it anytime soon.

Well, his quote above provides a little insight. Pursue your goal with reckless abandonment, your whole heart and soul. Sometimes the daily, mundane tasks cloud the passion and the fire. However, I am amazed –and inspired– that the Lakers are in the NBA Finals yet again. Go LAKERS!!!!

ONLY IN HAWAII…RARE PHOTOGRAPHS OF COCO CHANEL BY DOUGLAS KIRKLAND

Lifestyle drives me. Only in beautiful Hawaii can I emerge from a water session at Diamond Head, sun-kissed and invigorated, to the opulence and timeless luxury of the Chanel store in Waikiki. Without missing a beat, my friend Stuart gave me a personal tour of the rare photographic images being exhibited of the legendary fashion icon, Coco Chanel. It’s only in Hawaii that the Waikiki store is celebrating its 25th Anniversary and has an exclusive exhibition of photographs of Mademoiselle Chanel. It’s only in Hawaii that these rare photographs can be purchased and 10% of the proceeds will be donated to the Hawaii Children’s Cancer Foundation. However, the most intriguing and captivating feeling of these photographs by Douglas Kirkland, taken in 1962 as he shadowed her for three weeks in Paris, is having a glimpse of her lifestyle.  Besides the fashion, which is timeless, elegant, and just breathtaking, the photographs capture her incredible talent, her classic elegance, and her personality. It breathes life into her collections highlighting her quest for detail and her legendary style of the strands of pearls, the tweed suit, and the little black dress. This is an exhibition not to be missed.
